Four aggrieved governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State have reached an agreement with the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The aspirants, Rauf Olaniyan, Oyedele Alao, Musbau Asanike and Ololade Bakare, agreed to work with Alli and other APC candidates after a series of reconciliation meetings aimed at resolving disagreements from the party’s governorship primary.
The development was announced on Sunday by the Chairman of the APC Governorship Aspirants’ Reconciliation Committee, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, during a press briefing in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Lanlehin said the committee had listened to the concerns raised by some of the aspirants who participated in the primary and worked toward finding common ground among the party members.
According to him, the reconciliation was necessary because the APC would need a united structure to challenge for victory in the 2027 governorship election.
Eleven aspirants contested the APC governorship primary, with some expressing reservations about the conduct and outcome of the exercise. The reconciliation committee was later established to address the disagreements and bring the contenders together.
Following the meetings, the four aspirants agreed to put their differences aside and support Alli as the party prepares for the 2027 election.
The aspirants also pledged to work with the APC and its campaign structures across the state to help the party secure victory at the polls.
They further declared their support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for another term in office and promised to support him and other APC candidates during the 2027 elections.
The group also expressed interest in meeting with Tinubu at a suitable time to personally reaffirm their support for his presidential ambition.
The reconciliation committee said its engagement with the APC group of six governorship aspirants had been completed, with the exception of Akeem Agbaje.
The latest development is expected to strengthen the APC’s efforts to close ranks in Oyo State following the internal disagreements that followed its governorship primary.
The party is now expected to focus on building a stronger campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the reconciled aspirants expected to contribute their supporters and political networks to the party’s campaign.
