The All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, New Democratic Congress and Social Democratic Party have completed the electronic submission of their candidates for the 2027 general elections through the Independent National Electoral Commission portal.
The parties confirmed the development on Monday, August 10, as the deadline set by INEC for political parties to complete the online submission of their candidates approached.
INEC had initially fixed August 8 as the closing date for the exercise but later extended the deadline by three days to Tuesday, August 11, after several political parties appealed for more time to complete the process.
The APC said it finished uploading the names of its candidates before the original deadline. The party said its submission covered all elective positions, ranging from state Houses of Assembly seats to the presidential election.
The APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, said the exercise involved the submission of candidates from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The process required parties to nominate their candidates, provide the necessary documents, verify the information and submit the details electronically through the INEC platform.
The Peoples Democratic Party faction led by Wike also confirmed that it had completed the exercise. Its spokesman, Jungudo Haruna, said the names of the faction’s candidates had been uploaded successfully without technical problems.
The New Democratic Congress equally confirmed that it had concluded the electronic submission of its candidates ahead of the deadline.
The Social Democratic Party also disclosed that it had completed the upload of its candidates on the INEC portal.
The completion of the process by the four parties comes as political activities continue to increase ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties working to meet the electoral commission’s requirements for their candidates.
The online submission is part of INEC’s preparations for the elections and is expected to allow the commission to process and verify the details supplied by the participating political parties.
With APC, PDP, NDC and SDP completing the process, the parties have now met the electronic candidate-submission requirement ahead of the Tuesday deadline.
Political parties that had not completed the process by the extended deadline were expected to use the remaining time to upload and submit the required information through the commission’s portal.
