The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate closure of the secretariat of the dissolved Ad-hoc Committee on the Sale of Federal Government Houses in the FCT.
The directive was issued on Wednesday as the FCT Administration moved to end the activities of the former committee and transfer its responsibilities to the Department of Land Administration.
The minister also approved the establishment of a new division within the Department of Land Administration to handle all matters concerning the sale of Federal Government Houses in the nation’s capital.
The FCT Administration said the former committee had completed its assigned duties, but its secretariat remained operational to deal with matters arising from the committee’s work.
With the closure of the secretariat, residents and other members of the public seeking information or services relating to the sale of Federal Government Houses in the FCT are now expected to deal directly with the Department of Land Administration.
The administration also warned the public to be careful of individuals who may attempt to take advantage of the development by pretending to be officials or members of the former committee or its secretariat.
It stated that the committee and its secretariat no longer operate and therefore have no authority to conduct transactions or attend to matters concerning the sale of Federal Government Houses.
The warning became necessary as the FCT Administration sought to prevent fraudsters from using the name of the dissolved committee to deceive members of the public or collect money from people seeking to purchase government properties.
The new division under the Department of Land Administration will now serve as the appropriate channel for matters relating to the sale of Federal Government Houses within the FCT.
