Senator Dickson Appoints Ex-Sun Editor Nwosu, Two Others as Aides

National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, and Bayelsa West Senator, Henry Seriake Dickson, has appointed former Sun Newspapers editor, Steve Nwosu, and two other professionals as members of his political and administrative team.

The appointments, which took effect immediately, include Nwosu as spokesperson, Sani Takori as a key member of the team, and VinMartin Obiora Ilo as Chief Technical Adviser.

Dickson said the appointments were made to improve the running of his office, strengthen administration and support communication around his activities as both NDC national leader and a serving senator.

Nwosu brings more than three decades of experience in journalism, media management, political communication and publishing to his new role. He previously worked with The Guardian and ThisDay, where he held several editorial positions before moving to Sun Newspapers at its launch.

At Sun, Nwosu served as the pioneer editor of Saturday Sun and later became editor of Daily Sun. He also held senior management positions before leaving the organisation to establish the Nigerian Xpress Newspaper.

The journalist has also worked in broadcasting and media consultancy. He is currently the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of The Edibofa Communication and Publishing Limited, the company behind People’s FM stations in Abuja and Yenagoa, Universal Television Africa and the Nigerian Xpress Newspaper.

Nwosu also spent eight years on the Standing Committee of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, first representing the West Zone and later serving as treasurer.

Takori, a lawyer and politician from Zamfara State, has also been appointed to Dickson’s team. He has held several public offices during his career, including Registrar, Magistrate, Solicitor-General and Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Zamfara State.

He previously represented his constituency in the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007. He has also served as a local government chairman, National Legal Adviser to the Council of Ulamas and Chief Legal Officer of the Nigerian Electoral Commission.

Takori was involved in presidential campaign activities in 2003 and 2007 and is also a founding member of the NDC. He served as the party’s Protem National Secretary when it was registered as a political party.

Ilo, who will serve as Chief Technical Adviser, has nearly four decades of experience in broadcasting, public service, strategic communication, development work and international relations.

He studied Mass Communication at the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, and holds postgraduate degrees in Development Studies and International Relations and Strategic Studies. He is also an alumnus of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

Ilo began his career with Radio Nigeria, where he rose to become a network newscaster. He later joined Africa Independent Television and retired in 2013 as Director of Special Duties and South-East Operations.

He has also served as Special Adviser on Media to the Enugu State Governor and was a member of the Governing Board of the National Broadcasting Commission.

Before his latest appointment, Ilo was President and Chief Executive Officer of Signature TV.

According to the NDC, the three appointees have professional and public service experience that will support Dickson’s work within the party and the Senate.

The appointments come as political parties continue to strengthen their structures ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the NDC positioning itself as a major opposition platform in the country.
