2027: Tinubu meets Akpabio, Doguwa, Oyetola as campaign begins today

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday met with several senior government and political figures at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, less than 24 hours before the official start of campaigns for the 2027 general elections.

The meetings took place at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Tuesday evening, ahead of the August 19 date set by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the commencement of political campaigns.

Among those who visited the President was Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 6:12 pm.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, was also at the Villa around the same period and was said to have been meeting with the President.

Other senior officials who arrived at the Presidential Villa included the lawmaker representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State, Alhassan Ado Doguwa.

Doguwa arrived at about 7:15 pm, shortly after Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, was seen entering the premises.

Oyetola’s visit came shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the incumbent governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the August 15 governorship election.

Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, was also seen at the Presidential Villa during the series of meetings.

The purpose of the separate meetings was not made public, as the officials did not speak with journalists after their visits.
The meetings came at a time of increased political activity across the country as political parties prepare to begin their campaigns for the 2027 elections.

The electoral commission has fixed August 19, 2026, as the date for the official commencement of public campaigns ahead of the general elections.

The latest political engagements at the Presidential Villa are coming amid growing preparations within political parties as candidates and their supporters begin to mobilise ahead of the polls.
