Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on political leaders and supporters across the state to put aside their differences and work together for peace and development following the 2026 governorship election.
Adeleke made the call on Friday while responding to a peace appeal by the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, after the latter visited President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
The governor described Oyebamiji’s decision to call for peace as a positive step after a tense campaign and election period. He said the people of Osun needed stability and cooperation from their political leaders.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke urged members and supporters of all political parties to remain calm and avoid actions that could create fresh tension or threaten peace in the state.
The governor said his administration had remained against political violence and would continue to support peaceful engagement among political actors.
Adeleke also assured Oyebamiji that his supporters would not attack members of the APC, stressing that the period of political rivalry surrounding the election had ended.
According to the governor, the conclusion of the election should allow political leaders to focus on governance and the welfare of residents rather than continuing political battles.
He said the people of Osun should now be seen as the main beneficiaries of the democratic process, while leaders across party lines should work together to provide better governance and development.
Adeleke extended an invitation to former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, Oyebamiji and other opposition figures to join efforts aimed at improving the state.
He described all political leaders as stakeholders in the development of Osun and said their cooperation would be needed to address the challenges facing residents.
The governor further promised to continue supporting peace across the state and urged political parties to encourage their members to avoid confrontation.
He said the end of the election should mark the beginning of a period of cooperation, with political leaders putting the interests of Osun residents ahead of party differences.
