The Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has joined the All Progressives Congress, APC, campaign structure for the 2027 presidential election after being appointed Secretary I of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council.
Musa announced his acceptance of the role on Monday through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde.
The minister thanked President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership for choosing him for the position, describing the appointment as an additional responsibility in the service of the country and the party.
He said he was prepared to work with party leaders, stakeholders and supporters in carrying out the duties attached to his new position.
Musa, however, noted that his main responsibility as Defence Minister remained the protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and the lives and property of citizens.
He said ongoing military operations, reforms within the defence sector and cooperation among security agencies would continue despite his new role in the campaign council.
The minister also assured Nigerians that the Defence Ministry would remain focused on its constitutional duties while supporting efforts aimed at creating a safer country.
Musa called on APC members and Nigerians to support the Tinubu administration and remain united as the country moves towards the 2027 general elections.
He expressed confidence in the party’s chances at the polls and said the government would continue working on its responsibilities in governance and national security.
His appointment comes as the APC continues to put its presidential campaign structure in place ahead of the 2027 election, with several serving officials and party leaders taking up different roles in the campaign council.
