Former Gombe State Governor and Senator representing Gombe Central, Danjuma Goje, has denied reports that he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Goje made his position known on Monday after hundreds of his supporters from Gombe Central and nearby communities visited him to seek clarification about his political plans.
His Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Ahmed Kashere, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Abuja.
During the meeting, Goje told his supporters that he remained a member of the APC and had no plan to join another political party.
The former governor, who is one of the founding members of the APC, urged his supporters to continue working with party leaders and remain committed to the party.
Goje explained that after many years in politics and having held several public offices, he had no reason to leave the APC simply to pursue another Senate term. He noted that his decision could have been different if he were seeking a higher political office.
He also appealed to his supporters across Gombe State and beyond to support the party and contribute to its success ahead of the 2027 elections.
The senator, who has spent about 45 years in politics, recalled his long political career and said he had contested elections on eight occasions and won each time.
Goje served as a member of the Gombe State House of Assembly before becoming governor of the state for two terms. He later represented Gombe Central in the Senate on several occasions and also served as a federal minister between 1999 and 2001.
He said he had planned to leave active politics in 2019 but returned to contest the 2023 Senate election after his supporters persuaded him to continue.
According to him, his supporters went as far as purchasing his nomination form and campaigning for him during the election. He eventually won the election despite not taking part in the campaign activities.
Goje expressed appreciation to his supporters for their continued loyalty and support throughout his political career.
He also assured his supporters that his empowerment programmes would continue regardless of his future political plans.
The clarification comes at a time when political consultations and preparations for the 2027 general elections are increasing across Nigeria, with politicians and their supporters already making moves ahead of the polls.
