The All Progressives Congress, APC, has criticised opposition presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso over their approach to the 2027 general elections, accusing them of making political statements without offering a clear solution to Nigeria’s challenges.
APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines, where he questioned the opposition figures’ claims of offering Nigerians a new political direction.
Morka particularly criticised Kwankwaso, the former Kano State governor and a key figure in the opposition camp, arguing that his long involvement in Nigerian politics makes it difficult to present him as a fresh alternative.
The APC spokesman said Kwankwaso had been part of the country’s political establishment for years and had held important positions within the system. He therefore argued that the former governor could not completely distance himself from the problems that have affected the country.
Morka also grouped Atiku, Obi and Kwankwaso together, accusing them of grandstanding as preparations for the 2027 presidential election gather momentum.
According to him, the opposition politicians have continued to make strong political claims, but Nigerians are already familiar with the records of many of those who have previously held positions of authority in the country.
He argued that Nigeria’s present difficulties did not begin with the current administration, saying the country had experienced years of poor governance under both military and civilian administrations.
Morka maintained that Nigerians were aware of the role successive governments had played in shaping the current state of the country and would therefore judge political candidates based on their records and proposals ahead of the 2027 election.
His comments come as Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso and other opposition figures intensify their activities ahead of the presidential contest, while the APC prepares to defend its control of the Federal Government and seek another term for President Bola Tinubu.
