2027: APC Campaign Council List Remains, More Changes Coming – Presidency

The Presidency has said the All Progressives Congress campaign council for the 2027 presidential election remains in place, although changes will still be made to accommodate more party members and political stakeholders.

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, made this known on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

Dare spoke amid reports that the campaign council list might have been withdrawn or reviewed following complaints about its composition.

The controversy followed the inclusion of some APC leaders and the absence of others from the structure announced over the weekend.

According to Dare, the list has not been cancelled because the campaign structure is still being completed. He explained that several subcommittees are yet to be created and more party members will be included through those committees.

He said the APC had already clarified that the campaign council list remained valid and had not been withdrawn.

Dare, however, explained that the existing structure could still be changed where necessary. He said such changes should be seen as adjustments rather than a full review of the campaign council.

He explained that a review would mean making major changes to the entire structure, while the expected adjustments would only affect areas where additional changes are required.

The Presidency said the creation of subcommittees would also provide an opportunity to bring more party members and other political figures into the campaign organisation.

The campaign council was announced during the weekend as part of the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

President Bola Tinubu was named chairman of the council, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda were appointed vice chairmen.

Former Zamfara State Governor and serving Senator Abdul’aziz Yari was named Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was appointed secretary.

The composition of the council generated reactions within the party, with questions raised over some of the names included and others who were not listed.

Dare’s clarification indicates that the APC is retaining the main structure while leaving room for further appointments and changes as preparations for the 2027 election continue.

The campaign council is expected to coordinate the ruling party’s presidential campaign activities, with the additional committees expected to handle different areas of the campaign as the election draws closer.
