The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered an alleged baby factory in Abaren Village, Mowe, where two pregnant women and four children were rescued during an intelligence-led operation.
The operation was carried out on Monday, August 24, 2026, by officers from the Mowe Division following information about suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at a facility on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole.
Six suspects were arrested during the operation. They were identified as Florence Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Idaya.
Police said two pregnant women were found at the location. They were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.
Four children, made up of two boys and two girls, were also rescued from the premises.
Following the raid, investigators carried out further checks based on information gathered during the operation. Their investigation led them to a hospital within the Mowe area, where another woman, identified as 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20.
According to the police, the whereabouts of the newborn could not be established while the mother was receiving medical treatment. The attending nurse was subsequently arrested as investigators continued efforts to find the missing baby.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The police said the investigation is aimed at determining the full activities of the suspected syndicate, finding the missing newborn and identifying everyone involved in the alleged operation.
The command said it would provide further information as the investigation progresses.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers involved in the operation and said the command would continue its efforts against human trafficking, child trading and other crimes in the state.
