The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, in Ekiti State have started grassroots mobilisation for the 2027 presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
The two parties and their supporters met in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Thursday to discuss strategies for building support for Makinde ahead of the general elections.
The meeting brought together PDP and APM stakeholders from the 16 local government areas of Ekiti State, including youths, women, artisans and other party members.
The mobilisation was organised under the APM Awareness Campaign, with participants discussing ways to strengthen the PDP-APM alliance and increase support for Makinde across the state.
The convener of the alliance in Ekiti, Lanre Fajuyi, said the campaign was aimed at presenting Makinde as an alternative to the current administration and encouraging early mobilisation at the grassroots.
Fajuyi said the organisers believed Nigerians were looking for leadership that would address economic difficulties, improve the welfare of citizens and strengthen democratic governance.
She urged PDP and APM members across the state to begin preparations early and work towards securing wider support for Makinde’s presidential ambition.
Makinde became the APM presidential candidate for the 2027 election after the PDP and APM formalised their alliance in May 2026. The partnership was formed as part of efforts to create a stronger opposition platform ahead of the election.
Speaking on the alliance, the PDP/APM spokesperson for the South-West, Sanya Atofarati, said the partnership was aimed at keeping the multi-party system active and giving opposition politicians a platform to participate in the 2027 elections.
Atofarati said the political challenges facing the PDP had made it necessary for some of its members to consider alternative platforms that could accommodate their political ambitions.
He described the APM as an increasingly useful platform for opposition members in Ekiti and other parts of the South-West.
According to him, the alliance would allow PDP members and other opposition groups to remain politically active while preparing for the next general elections.
The APM Vice Chairman in Ekiti State, Remilekun Solola, also backed the partnership, describing it as a platform for building a stronger opposition ahead of 2027.
The organisers said the mobilisation would continue across the state as the parties work to reach more voters and build support for Makinde ahead of the presidential election.
