Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dissolved the Governing Council of Osun State University and appointed a new council to oversee the affairs of the institution.
The governor announced the change on Friday in Osogbo, saying the decision was made to maintain continuity in the running of the university and ensure that its activities are not disrupted.
The new council will be headed by Sooko Professor Adewale Abiodun Oladipo as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman. Oladipo also served as chairman of the council that was dissolved by the governor.
Other members appointed to the new council are Alhaji Gbadegesin Lawal, Otunba Titi Laoye-Ponnle, Akinola Franklin Omoniyi, Chief Funminiyi Awotide, Orija Samuel Adebayo and Mrs Adewale Adetayo Bola.
Adeleke directed the newly appointed council to build on the progress already recorded by the university and provide the needed support for its management.
The governor also tasked the council with helping the institution maintain its standards while encouraging new ideas and further development across the university.
The state government said the reconstitution was also intended to prevent any administrative gap and ensure that the university continues to operate smoothly during the transition.
The new council is expected to work with the university management on matters relating to administration, academic development and the general growth of the institution.
The formal inauguration of the newly constituted Governing Council has been scheduled for Monday, August 31, 2026.
The development comes as the Adeleke administration continues its efforts to strengthen the management of public institutions in Osun State and ensure continuity in their operations.
