The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has denied reports that it is mobilising support across the state for the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, through a partnership with the Allied Peoples Movement.
The party made its position known in Ado Ekiti through a statement issued by its state chairman, Lanre Omolase, who described the report as false and unauthorised.
The Ekiti PDP said the reported mobilisation did not come from any recognised organ of the party in the state and that its leadership had neither approved nor organised any campaign in support of Makinde’s alleged presidential ambition.
The party also denied having any political arrangement with the Allied Peoples Movement, saying its name and structure should not be linked to any such activity without approval from its recognised leadership.
Omolase said the publication appeared to be an attempt to create confusion within the party and give the impression that the Ekiti PDP had taken a position on Makinde’s political plans ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The state chapter further stated that it would not support what it described as political betrayal, accusing the Oyo governor of repeatedly acting against the interests of the PDP.
The party said its members, supporters and the general public should disregard the report and avoid treating unauthorised statements as the official position of the Ekiti PDP.
The leadership also warned individuals and groups against using the party’s name, structures or authority to promote personal political interests.
According to the state chapter, official positions of the party can only be communicated through its recognised organs and authorised spokespersons.
The Ekiti PDP said it remained committed to internal discipline, proper procedures and respect for the party’s established structures.
The party also called on media organisations and members of the public to verify political claims before attributing them to the Ekiti PDP, especially as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The clarification comes amid growing political discussions and realignments among opposition politicians and parties ahead of the next general elections, with several political figures already holding consultations over possible alliances and presidential contests.
