An All Progressives Congress chieftain in Oyo State, Rasaq Sijuola, has called for security agencies to investigate the alleged destruction and replacement of campaign billboards belonging to APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sijuola made the call in a statement released on Saturday, alleging that political miscreants had pulled down some APC campaign materials in parts of Ibadan and replaced them with materials promoting candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement.
The APC chieftain, who contested the party’s recent primary election for Akinyele State Constituency 2, said some of the affected campaign materials were located along the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture road in Akinyele Local Government Area.
According to him, the billboards were destroyed and removed before campaign materials belonging to the APM were placed in their positions.
Sijuola, who is also the Mogaji of Looyin Compound in Ibadan, described the alleged action as unacceptable and warned that political disagreements should not lead to the destruction of campaign materials or other people’s property.
He urged security agencies to intervene quickly and prevent the situation from escalating as political activities increase ahead of the 2027 elections.
The APC member also disclosed that he was consulting his lawyers over the alleged destruction and replacement of the campaign materials. He said legal action would be considered after his legal team determines the appropriate steps to take.
He further called on APC leaders, political stakeholders, security agencies and other relevant authorities to investigate the allegations and take action against anyone found to be responsible.
Sijuola appealed to supporters of political parties in the state to remain calm and avoid actions that could create tension ahead of the elections.
He urged politicians and their supporters to focus on presenting their plans and policies to voters instead of attacking opponents or damaging campaign materials.
The APC chieftain also called for tolerance and restraint among political supporters, saying the 2027 election season should be based on issues, public service and plans for the development of Oyo State.
The alleged incident comes as political parties and their candidates gradually increase their activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with campaign materials and other forms of political mobilisation becoming more visible across the state.
Sijuola said peaceful participation was necessary to protect the democratic process and urged all political actors to respect the rights and property of their opponents throughout the election period.
