The Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
INEC made the confirmation public on Saturday, August 29, 2026, after Adegoke’s Form EC9 was uploaded to the commission’s official website alongside the nomination documents of other candidates contesting the election.
The development is expected to end the dispute within the ADC over who should represent the party in the Oyo governorship race.
The Oyo governorship election is scheduled to take place alongside governorship elections in 27 other states across the country.
Adegoke’s emergence had been surrounded by disagreement among some aspirants and their supporters over the party’s choice of candidate. However, the appearance of his name on INEC’s list has now provided an official position from the electoral body on the candidate recognised for the election.
Following the confirmation, Adegoke called on other aspirants within the ADC and their supporters to put their differences aside and work together ahead of the election.
He urged members who were unhappy with the outcome of the party’s nomination process to respect the decision of the party and INEC.
The ADC candidate also appealed to party supporters and residents of Oyo State to remain calm as preparations for the 2027 election gather pace.
He called for unity among party members, saying that the focus should now shift towards building a strong campaign and securing victory for the ADC at the polls.
The confirmation comes as political parties across Oyo State intensify preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
With INEC now recognising Adegoke as the ADC candidate, attention is expected to shift to the party’s campaign strategy, grassroots mobilisation and efforts to bring together members who had been divided over the governorship ticket.
