The All Progressives Congress has selected Major Jack, the Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.
The development was confirmed on Tuesday by the APC Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, Ikenga Chibike, as the party continues preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Jack’s selection completes the APC governorship ticket in the state, with Chinda set to contest the governorship position and Jack serving as his deputy candidate.
Chinda emerged as the APC’s governorship candidate after the party’s primary election held in May 2026. Since then, attention has shifted to the selection of a suitable running mate ahead of the election.
The choice of Jack is expected to help the party address geographical considerations in the state and strengthen its appeal among voters, particularly in riverine communities.
Jack is also a serving member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, where he holds the position of Majority Leader. His selection therefore brings a sitting state lawmaker into the APC’s governorship campaign structure.
The lawmaker joined the APC in December 2025 alongside the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and several other members of the legislature.
Their movement to the APC was part of a wider political realignment in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 election.
With Jack now chosen as Chinda’s running mate, the APC is expected to focus on strengthening its campaign structure and mobilising support across the different parts of the state.
The party will also be seeking to consolidate its support among both urban and riverine communities as the political activities leading to the 2027 governorship contest gather momentum.
The APC ticket will now be led by Chinda as the governorship candidate, with Jack as his deputy, as the party prepares to challenge other candidates and parties in the Rivers State election.
