The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, on Tuesday met with the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and other candidates in Abuja as the party begins plans to strengthen its grassroots campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, held at the Obidient Headquarters in Abuja, brought together governorship, senatorial and other candidates of the NDC from different states across the country.
Obi said the meeting was focused on finding ways to take the party’s campaign to more communities, particularly rural areas and places outside the major cities.
The former Anambra State governor said the party was working to build a stronger presence across the country by engaging directly with Nigerians at the grassroots.
He also assured the candidates of his support as they prepare for the elections in their various states and constituencies.
Obi said he would work closely with the candidates and support efforts aimed at building the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 polls.
The meeting also brought Obi and Kwankwaso together as the two leaders continue their political partnership under the NDC. Their alliance is expected to play a major role in the party’s efforts to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the next election.
Obi said the party’s campaign would focus on addressing issues affecting ordinary Nigerians, including poverty, insecurity, unemployment and the growing number of children who are out of school.
He also listed support for small and medium-sized businesses, national unity and improved security among the issues the party intends to pursue.
The NDC leadership further plans to promote a shift from dependence on consumption to increased production, with the aim of creating more opportunities for Nigerians and strengthening the economy.
The meeting is part of the party’s wider preparations for the 2027 general elections as Obi, Kwankwaso and other NDC candidates work to build support across the country.
