Chief Dan Osi Orbih, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State and former South-South National Vice Chairman of the party, has died at the age of 64.
Orbih reportedly died on Monday, August 31, 2026, with news of his death announced by members of his family.
The former PDP chieftain was a well-known figure in Edo politics and was also regarded as a close ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
His death was made public in a family announcement shared by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, with Lere Olayinka, the Chief Press Secretary to Wike, also drawing attention to the development through a social media post.
The family described Orbih as a beloved brother, husband, father and uncle and called for prayers as relatives and associates come to terms with his death.
Orbih is survived by his wife, Florence, and his children, Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Mildred Omonemi Orbih. He is also survived by his brothers, sisters and other members of the extended family.
The family said further information about the burial arrangements would be released later.
Before his death, Orbih served as the Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State.
He was born on October 27, 1961, in Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
Orbih played an active role in the PDP for several years and rose through the party’s ranks to become chairman of its Edo State chapter. He later served as the party’s National Vice Chairman for the South-South region.
His political activities also brought him into close association with Wike, with whom he shared political interests within the PDP.
His death comes at a time when political parties and their leaders are already preparing for the 2027 general elections.
News of his passing is expected to draw reactions from political associates, party members, friends and other stakeholders who worked with him during his years in politics and public service.
