The Peoples Democratic Party has started mobilising supporters across Kogi Central for the 2027 general elections, with the party’s campaign structure seeking support for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to retain her seat in the Senate.
The mobilisation began on Thursday in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, where PDP members, youths, women and other loyalists took part in a solidarity road walk for Akpoti-Uduaghan and other candidates expected to contest under the party’s platform.
The exercise was led by Salami Etudaiye, the Director-General of the PDP campaign organisation for Kogi Central. The development was disclosed in Abuja by Mike Idoko, the senator’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.
The campaign activities are part of efforts by the PDP to strengthen its presence at the grassroots and build support ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kogi Central Senatorial District consists of Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okehi, Okene and Ogori-Magongo Local Government Areas. The PDP campaign leadership is seeking to unite voters across the five councils behind Akpoti-Uduaghan’s bid for another term in the Senate.
Etudaiye said the turnout in Okehi showed that the party had continued to build support within the district. He urged residents to assess the senator’s performance during her first term when deciding who should represent them in the next Senate.
He said a second term would give Akpoti-Uduaghan more time to build on her legislative work and constituency programmes while pursuing projects and initiatives that could benefit people across Kogi Central.
The campaign director also called on voters to make their choices based on issues affecting the district rather than political sentiments. He said the 2027 election would provide residents with an opportunity to decide whether they wanted continuity in the representation they currently had.
PDP supporters at the event also expressed confidence in the senator and the party. One of the party’s stakeholders, Bashir Haroon, described the turnout as an indication of support for Akpoti-Uduaghan and the PDP in Okehi.
Haroon said the participation of residents showed their preference for the type of representation they wanted in the National Assembly. He urged supporters in other parts of Kogi Central to maintain unity and work towards turning their support into votes during the election.
Akpoti-Uduaghan has remained a major political figure in Kogi Central since entering the Senate. Her supporters have pointed to her legislative activities, engagement with constituents and advocacy on issues affecting the district as reasons for seeking her return.
The PDP campaign team said its proposed second-term agenda would focus on building on existing programmes while seeking further development in areas such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth development, women empowerment, skills training and economic opportunities.
The party also called for peaceful political participation as activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to increase across Kogi State.
The latest mobilisation in Okehi marks an early step in the PDP’s campaign efforts in Kogi Central as the party prepares to defend its position and seek continued support for Akpoti-Uduaghan in the senatorial contest.
