2027: ADC Slams APC Over Campaign in ‘Neglected’ Nsukka Zone

The Enugu State chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has criticised the All Progressives Congress, APC, over the commencement of its 2027 re-election campaign in Nsukka Zone, accusing the ruling party of neglecting the area despite seeking residents’ support for Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Tinubu.

The ADC made its position known in a statement issued by its media team on Saturday, September 5, 2026, after the APC began its campaign in Enugu North Senatorial District earlier in the week. The opposition party urged residents of the zone to carefully assess the government’s record before deciding whether to support its candidates.

According to the ADC, the APC-led administration had failed to deliver enough development projects in Nsukka since Governor Mbah assumed office. The party questioned the decision to begin the re-election campaign in an area it claimed had received little attention from the government.

The ADC alleged that no kilometre of road had been completed by the state government in the entire Enugu North Senatorial District during Mbah’s first three years and three months in office. It also accused the administration of failing to fulfil several promises made to residents of the zone.

The opposition party further claimed that the government’s reported road construction achievements across Enugu State had not translated into meaningful projects for Nsukka. It alleged that some of the roads said to have been completed were already showing signs of deterioration.

The ADC also criticised the government over its handling of Ogige Market in Nsukka, claiming that the demolition of the market was one of the few major actions residents could point to in the area.

On political appointments, the party alleged that Nsukka received little representation beyond positions required by law. It said more people from the area were appointed into roles such as special advisers, senior special assistants and special project advisers only after political activities for the 2027 elections began.

The ADC also raised concerns about flooding around Ugwuoye Junction in Nsukka. It alleged that efforts to clear underground drainage channels in the area had not received enough attention, despite the location experiencing repeated flooding.

The party accused the APC of turning to Nsukka mainly when elections were approaching, arguing that the area should receive development attention throughout the government’s tenure and not only during campaign periods.

The criticism comes as political parties in Enugu State begin preparations for the 2027 elections. The APC is seeking another term for Governor Mbah and support for President Tinubu, while opposition parties are working to challenge the ruling party across the state.

The ADC said residents of Enugu North should consider the government’s performance and development record before making their choice at the polls. The party maintained that the people of Nsukka deserve sustained attention and projects rather than campaign visits followed by another period of limited government presence.
