The African Action Congress (AAC) in Oyo State has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to closely monitor how the state government spends public funds as political activities increase ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party made the request in a petition dated September 9, 2026, which was submitted to the EFCC through its lawyers, Damilare Adenola and Co Law Practice. The petition was received at the commission’s Ibadan Zonal Office on September 14.
In the petition addressed to the EFCC Zonal Director in Ibadan, the AAC called for close monitoring of the state government’s spending before, during and after the 2027 elections.
The party said its request was based on the need to promote accountability and ensure that public money is not diverted for political activities during the election period.
The Oyo State Chairman of the AAC, Kayode Babayomi, said the party had a responsibility to demand transparency in the management of government resources, especially as political activities surrounding the 2027 elections continue to grow.
The party argued that proper oversight of government expenditure could help prevent the misuse of public funds and ensure that state resources are used for the benefit of residents.
The AAC also said monitoring government spending during the election period would help protect the credibility of the electoral process and strengthen public confidence in the management of public funds.
The party therefore urged the anti-graft agency to pay close attention to the financial activities of the Oyo State Government throughout the election period.
As of the time of filing the report, the EFCC had not publicly responded to the petition or announced any action concerning the request.
