Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has said he never promised President Bola Tinubu that he would join the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made this known during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday night, explaining that his commitment to Tinubu was to support the President’s re-election bid and not to become a member of the ruling party.
The former Rivers State governor said his political support for Tinubu should not be mistaken for an agreement to leave his party and join the APC.
According to Wike, he had made it clear from the beginning that he would support Tinubu but never gave the President an assurance that he would formally become an APC member.
He also responded to comments from Imo State Governor and APC Governors’ Forum chairman, Hope Uzodimma, over his political position. Wike said any decision to join the APC would be his personal choice and would not depend on pressure from Uzodimma or other APC governors.
The FCT minister further criticised Uzodimma’s conduct within the APC, saying he would not tolerate what he described as the governor’s current approach to politics if he were a member of the ruling party.
Wike’s comments come amid disagreements between him and some APC governors over his political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
The minister has continued to support Tinubu’s bid for another term while also maintaining that his support does not mean that he has joined the APC.
His position has also become part of the wider political discussions surrounding possible alliances and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
