The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the administration of President Bola Tinubu has changed the pace and approach to infrastructure development in Abuja through ongoing road and public projects.
Wike made the statement on Wednesday in Abuja after inspecting several road projects being constructed to reduce traffic, improve movement and support development across the Federal Capital Territory.
The minister inspected the construction of Arterial Road S1, linking Ring Road II with Arterial Road S20, also known as Oladipo Diya Way, in Kaura District. He also visited Collector Road C2 in Life Camp, which connects to Arterial Road N5, Obafemi Awolowo Way.
Other projects inspected by the minister included Arterial Road N16, which runs from Ring Road II to Ring Road III, and Jereton Mariere Street around the Apo Legislative Quarters in Gudu District.
Wike also inspected the ongoing renovation and remodelling of the IBB Golf Course during the tour.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and the quality of construction on the projects. He said the FCT Administration was working towards completing the projects before the 2027 general elections.
Wike also expressed confidence that the Arterial Road N16 project would be completed despite the difficult terrain and the large bridge construction involved in the project.
He said the contractor had given assurances that the road would be ready by the first week of January. According to him, completing the project would bring major changes to the surrounding areas and improve access within the territory.
On the IBB Golf Course, Wike said the renovation would be completed in time for the facility to resume full operations and host major tournaments by November.
The minister also gave an update on funding for the ongoing projects, saying the implementation of the 2026 capital budget had reached 60 per cent.
He explained that contractors initially experienced delays in receiving payments because of delays in the release of funds. However, he said the situation had improved and funding was now flowing steadily, allowing contractors to operate at full capacity.
Wike also spoke about political activities ahead of the 2027 election cycle, urging politicians seeking elective positions to concentrate on their records and what they have achieved rather than allowing political distractions to dominate their campaigns.
