The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu and two other candidates ahead of the 2027 elections in the FCT, saying they have the capacity to win their respective contests.
Wike made the statement on Thursday in Abuja while speaking with journalists after inspecting ongoing road and other infrastructure projects in satellite communities across the Federal Capital Territory.
The former Rivers State governor said he was not worried about the chances of Tinubu, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda and John Gabaya in the 2027 elections. He urged FCT residents to support candidates they believe have shown commitment to improving their lives.
During the inspection, Wike also spoke about the Apo-Karshi road project, explaining that the contract was first awarded in 2010 but was delayed under the previous administration. He said the Federal Government later cancelled the earlier arrangement and awarded the project again to another contractor.
According to the minister, the contractor handling the road has promised to complete the project by November 2026.
Wike also pointed to the Federal Government’s efforts to extend infrastructure development from the Abuja city centre to satellite communities in the FCT. He said more than 10 projects are expected to be completed and inaugurated in the territory before the 2027 elections.
He said the number of projects planned for commissioning would exceed the initial target of 10 projects.
Speaking about the political situation in the FCT, Wike linked the administration’s infrastructure projects to its record in office and said residents would consider such developments when deciding who to support in the 2027 elections.
The minister said the Tinubu administration had responded to demands from residents by working on infrastructure and addressing problems in different communities.
He argued that voters who want a government that listens to their concerns, cares about their welfare and addresses their needs would have reasons to consider the administration’s record when making their choices.
Wike also maintained that he was confident Tinubu would retain the support of FCT voters in the 2027 presidential election. He similarly expressed confidence in the chances of Aduda and Gabaya in their respective contests.
His comments came as political activities continue to increase ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties and candidates positioning themselves across the Federal Capital Territory and other parts of the country.
