The African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he and other party leaders may leave partisan politics if the All Progressives Congress, APC, wins the 2027 presidential election.
Amaechi made the statement on Wednesday in Abuja during the ADC National Women League Conference, where he urged party leaders and supporters across the country to intensify their campaign efforts ahead of the election.
The former minister called on ADC leaders who are outside the Federal Capital Territory to return to their various states and mobilise voters for the party.
He said the outcome of the 2027 election would determine the political future of many of the ADC leaders, warning that an APC victory would force the group of leaders currently working with the opposition party to retire from active politics.
Amaechi therefore urged party members to work harder in their respective wards and states, saying every vote would be important to the party’s chances in the election.
He also disclosed plans to return to his home state to participate directly in the campaign, indicating that he would take part in grassroots mobilisation rather than remain focused on formal political appearances.
The ADC chieftain further urged party leaders to set clear targets for voter mobilisation in their various wards. He said achieving strong results at the ward level would help the party build the numbers needed to challenge the APC at the presidential poll.
Amaechi’s comments come as political parties and opposition groups intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the ADC seeking to expand its support base and challenge the ruling APC at the presidential level.
