The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has warned Nigerians against a fraudulent website claiming that a nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently underway.
The commission issued the warning in a public notice after the website, pvc-inecnigeria-org.blogspot.com, announced that online voter registration would run from September 28 to October 27, 2026.
INEC said the website is not connected to the commission and urged Nigerians not to access the platform or submit personal information through it.
The commission warned that providing personal details on the website could expose users to the risk of having their sensitive information collected and potentially misused.
INEC clarified that the nationwide voter registration exercise ended on July 26, 2026. It therefore described claims that a fresh nationwide online registration exercise is being conducted through the website as false.
The commission also urged Nigerians to verify information concerning voter registration and other electoral activities through its official communication channels rather than relying on unverified websites or social media platforms.
The fake website reportedly presents itself as offering a final phase of nationwide online voter card registration. It claims to provide services for updating voter registration information, transferring registration to another polling unit and replacing damaged or lost Permanent Voter Cards.
The platform also claims that voter registration and PVC delivery are free.
INEC advised members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid providing personal information to unauthorised platforms, particularly websites claiming to offer electoral services without confirmation from the commission.
