Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde made the call in a video shared on his social media platforms on Tuesday, where he displayed his own PVC and encouraged eligible voters to obtain theirs before the elections.
The governor said the Independent National Electoral Commission had announced that the collection of PVCs would begin on October 9, 2026.
Makinde said Nigerians needed to obtain their voter cards if they wanted to take part in the 2027 electoral process. He also encouraged citizens to make use of their voting rights regardless of the candidate or political party they planned to support.
According to the governor, the PVC gives citizens the opportunity to take part in deciding who governs them at different levels of government.
He urged Nigerians to prepare ahead of the elections by collecting their cards and making informed choices when voting.
Makinde’s call came as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum across the country.
The Oyo governor is seeking the presidency in 2027 under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement. He emerged as the party’s presidential candidate in May 2026 and has since been involved in activities aimed at building his campaign.
On Tuesday, his campaign organisation inaugurated its National Campaign Management Committee in Abuja as preparations for the presidential election intensified.
The campaign organisation is targeting between 41 million and 68 million votes in the 2027 election as part of its plan to secure victory.
Makinde became governor of Oyo State after winning the 2019 election and was returned to office for a second term in 2023. He is now seeking to move from the state level to the national stage by challenging for the presidency and attempting to succeed President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
