Tinubu Govt Cornered N250bn NLNG Dividends Meant for States – Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of spending Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) dividends allegedly earmarked for distribution to state governments.

Makinde claimed that each state was expected to receive more than ₦250 billion from the payments but had yet to receive its allocation.

He made the allegation on Friday during a stakeholders’ meeting on Oyo State’s 2027 budget at the International Conference Centre in Ibadan.

The governor said the funds had been paid into the Federation Account and the relevant figures reconciled, but alleged that the Federal Government spent the money instead of distributing it to the states.

Makinde said Oyo State had already identified projects for which it intended to use the expected allocation to stimulate economic growth and development.

He also criticised suggestions that payment could be delayed until after the 2027 elections, arguing that the welfare of Nigerians should take priority over political considerations.

The governor maintained that the states were entitled to their respective shares and accused the Federal Government of retaining the funds despite the reconciliation of the figures.
