The Action Peoples Party (APP) senatorial candidate for Imo East Senatorial District, also known as Owerri Zone, Dr Chima Matthew Amadi, has raised concerns over alleged threats to his life, claiming that there are attempts to eliminate him.
In a statement issued on Tuesday night by his Chief Press Secretary, Cajetan Duke, Amadi alleged that credible information pointed to a possible plot to harm him ahead of the January 16, 2027 elections.
He called on the Imo State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the alleged threats, establish their credibility and take preventive measures to protect him and other people who might be at risk.
The latest allegation comes after Amadi’s campaign council raised a similar concern on September 8, 2026, over an alleged plot to militarise Ngor Okpala. The organisation had described the development as a threat to political tolerance, public peace and democratic participation.
Amadi’s campaign organisation maintained that political competition should be based on ideas, verifiable records, policy proposals and the confidence of voters rather than intimidation, violence or attempts to remove political opponents from the democratic process.
Reaffirming the candidate’s determination to remain in the race, the organisation declared that no threat, intimidation or calculated attempt to instil fear would force Amadi to abandon his senatorial ambition.
The campaign council also urged the police, DSS and other security agencies to conduct discreet but thorough investigations, strengthen preventive security arrangements around politically exposed persons and ensure that all candidates could campaign without intimidation.
