Why Tinubu Govt Would’ve Detained Peter Obi Until After Election – Pat Utomi

Professor of Political Economy, Pat Utomi, has claimed that the Bola Tinubu-led administration would have arrested and detained the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, until after the election if it had found evidence of wrongdoing against him.

Utomi made the claim in a post on his official X handle on Wednesday, arguing that the former Anambra State governor had no wrongdoing that could be used against him.

He suggested that if Obi were corrupt like other politicians, the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government would have taken advantage of the opportunity to arrest him and keep him behind bars until after the January 16 election, particularly because he is an opposition figure.

Utomi further alleged that members of the political establishment were uncomfortable with Obi because they had been unable to establish any credible wrongdoing against him.

He maintained that repeated efforts to find damaging information about the NDC candidate had not produced evidence that could be used against him, adding that this was why some members of the political elite viewed Obi as a threat to what he described as the corrupt establishment.
