Lakurawa enforces cattle-only farming to Kebbi farmers

Villagers in Kebbi State’s Augie Local Government Area are appealing to the Nigerian government and military for urgent intervention after receiving threats from the Lakurawa terrorist group, which has warned against the use of mechanized farming in their communities.

According to local sources, the terrorists have ordered farmers to abandon plans to adopt modern agricultural machinery, threatening execution for anyone who replaces traditional cattle-powered farming methods.

The ultimatum has sparked fear and frustration among residents already reeling from widespread cattle rustling perpetrated by the same group.

“We have no cattle left because they steal them,” said one farmer.

“Now that we’re trying to use machines, they’re threatening to kill us. It’s like they want to keep us trapped in the past.”

Several affected communities say they had started turning to small-scale mechanized farming as a way to sustain food production and commercial agriculture after losing their cattle. But with the terrorists now forbidding this transition, many farmers feel powerless and abandoned.

An intelligence source confirmed that the threat is real and widespread, with warnings of severe consequences—including execution—for any farmer caught defying the group’s demands.

The source, however, noted that security forces are aware of the situation and have begun addressing it.

Still, villagers remain anxious and demand immediate protection.

“These people are dictating our livelihoods by force,” another resident said.

“We need the government to step in now before more lives and livelihoods are lost.”

The residents hope the government’s intervention will restore security and allow them to farm freely using modern methods, without the fear of violent retribution.
