The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Tuesday reacted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Independence Day speech, rejecting any link to terrorism and restating its position as a movement that promotes peaceful self-determination.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, the group explained that its activities are rooted in nonviolent methods and referred to the ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja in March 2017, which stated that IPOB is not a terrorist group.

IPOB said it will continue to operate within lawful processes in pursuing its aims.The group also demanded that the government respect existing court rulings regarding the detention of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

It insisted that adherence to the rule of law remains central to the movement’s struggle and urged authorities to follow due process in handling the matter.
As Nigeria marked its 65th Independence anniversary, IPOB urged citizens to focus on dialogue, peace, and national unity while the country works through its political and social challenges.
The movement maintained that its vision for self-determination remains peaceful and within the law.
