Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied reports suggesting that he plans to withdraw from the 2027 presidential contest in favour of another aspirant.

The clarification was issued on Thursday in a statement by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, who said the reports misrepresented Atiku’s recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service.

According to him, a review of the video and its transcripts confirmed that Atiku never said he would step down for anyone.He explained that during the interview, Atiku only noted that young people and other aspirants are free to contest the party’s presidential ticket.

He added that if a younger candidate emerged through a competitive primary, Atiku would give his support.The former Vice President stressed that while journalists can interpret interviews, misrepresenting his words to suggest a withdrawal plan was misleading.
He maintained that his actual remarks only pointed to the inclusiveness of his party, which encourages youth and women to participate actively.Earlier reports from BBC Hausa had quoted Atiku as saying that he would support a younger aspirant if such a person defeated him at the primaries.
He further noted that in such a situation, he would not only step aside but also mentor the winner.With the 2027 general elections approaching, Atiku’s clarification aims to dismiss speculation and affirm his continued interest in the presidential race under his new party platform.
