The flotilla, known as the Global Sumud Flotilla, consisted of around 45 vessels carrying politicians and activists. It departed from Spain last month with the goal of delivering aid to Gaza and challenging Israel’s ongoing blockade of the territory.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has consistently condemned Israel’s military actions in Gaza, describing them as harmful to civilians and calling for the protection of Palestinian lives.
The interception of the flotilla has intensified diplomatic tensions between Brazil and Israel, with Brazil urging Israel to respect the rights of peaceful activists and facilitate humanitarian support.
