The number of deaths from the collapse of an Islamic boarding school in Indonesia’s Java Island has increased to 63, authorities confirmed on Monday, as rescue teams continued to recover bodies from the rubble.

The multi-storey building caved in last week while over 150 students were gathered for afternoon prayers. Search and rescue officials said a few students were still missing, and efforts were ongoing to locate them.

According to the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the operation is expected to be completed soon, after which the bodies will be handed over to their families for burial.Officials from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) described the tragedy as the deadliest disaster in Indonesia so far this year.
