Fire Destroys Rivers Pension Board Office After Fubara’s Dissolution Order

A fire outbreak on Monday evening destroyed parts of the Rivers State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt, damaging offices belonging to the State Pension Board.

The incident happened just hours after Governor Siminalayi Fubara announced the dissolution of the board, which was previously led by Vice Admiral Ikot Ete Ibas (rtd).

The cause of the fire is yet to be officially confirmed, but sources within the complex suggested that it may have been caused by an electrical fault.

The blaze reportedly consumed several offices and vital documents linked to the board’s operations.The incident occurred amid rising concerns over alleged financial irregularities within the Pension Board.

There were also reports that an investigation into the board’s financial dealings during the period of Emergency Rule in the state was being planned before the fire broke out.

Firefighters from both the State and Federal Fire Services quickly arrived at the scene to control the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other sections of the complex.

As of the time of filing this report, officials were still assessing the extent of damage and confirming whether any lives were lost in the incident.
