A Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, has died after suffering severe burns during a domestic dispute with his wife in Akwa Ibom State.

The incident took place on September 22, 2025, at Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area.Reports indicate that the officer, who also served as a medical doctor attached to the 6 Battalion Regimental Medical Officer, was involved in a heated argument with his wife, Mrs. Samson Haruna.

The dispute reportedly escalated when she allegedly poured petrol on him and set him ablaze.Following the attack, Lt. Haruna was initially treated at the Military Reference Section within the barracks and later evacuated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for further medical care.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries.Authorities have confirmed that the suspect has been taken into custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The case remains under active investigation by security personnel.
