Tension in Enugu APC: Dissolved Executives Fight Back Against NWC

The dissolved Enugu State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has opposed its dissolution by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), insisting that the move was unconstitutional and unjustified.

In a statement issued by members of the 40-man executive, the group said it was duly elected through a lawful congress in line with the APC Constitution of 2022 (as amended) and was never notified of any wrongdoing or misconduct to warrant such action.

The former executives faulted the decision reached by the NWC at its 179th meeting on October 9, 2025, which announced the dissolution of the Enugu State leadership and the appointment of a seven-man caretaker committee headed by Ben Nwoye.

They argued that the NWC lacked the authority to dissolve a state executive committee, pointing out that, according to the APC Constitution, only the National Executive Committee (NEC), based on recommendations from the Zonal Executive Committee, can initiate disciplinary procedures against a state body.

The group accused those appointed into the caretaker committee of being unfit to lead the party, alleging that some were under suspension for anti-party activities, while one had already resigned from the APC.

The dissolved executive committee instructed all party officers across the state, local government, and ward levels to remain in office and continue their official duties.

They further directed members to disregard the caretaker arrangement, describing it as illegal and lacking any constitutional backing.

The internal crisis in Enugu APC deepened following the NWC’s October 9 decision, which announced the dissolution of the state executive and the appointment of an interim committee to run the party’s affairs pending further instructions from the national secretariat.
