Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed claims that he is working with former President Goodluck Jonathan to form an alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi’s media aide and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, made this known during an interview, explaining that there is no pact or political plan between both leaders to unseat President Bola Tinubu.According to Tanko, Obi and Jonathan share a cordial relationship and occasionally meet to discuss issues concerning Nigeria’s progress.

He clarified that their recent interactions, including a meeting in Ghana, were not politically motivated but rather centred on discussions about the country’s development.

In September, Obi had shared that he met with Jonathan in Abuja for a closed-door discussion on national issues, describing it as a positive and constructive engagement.Meanwhile, calls for Jonathan to return to active politics have resurfaced in recent weeks.
Some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political groups have been urging the former president to contest in 2027, saying he could help address poverty and economic hardship facing Nigerians.
However, both Obi and Jonathan have yet to make any declaration regarding future political plans or alliances.
