Enugu Governor Peter Mbah Defects to APC

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made on Tuesday during a press briefing held in Enugu, where Mbah said the move was aimed at bringing new opportunities for development to the state.

Mbah explained that his decision followed deep reflection and a desire to partner with a government that shares his vision for growth and transformation. According to him, joining the APC would enable him to serve the people of Enugu more effectively and ensure the state’s inclusion in national development plans.

The governor, who was joined by his predecessor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as well as lawmakers and top political figures from the state, described the switch as a collective choice by Enugu’s political leaders.

He noted that the decision marked the beginning of a new chapter for the state and the South-East region.He expressed gratitude to the PDP for the support it gave him during his political journey but said the South-East’s loyalty to the party had not yielded the desired recognition.

Mbah expressed optimism that working with the APC would bring Enugu closer to the centre of national decision-making and create more opportunities for growth and prosperity.

His defection comes as part of a wider political realignment in the South-East, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
