The All Progressives Congress (APC) has chosen Governor Biodun Oyebanji as its consensus candidate for the upcoming Ekiti State governorship primary election scheduled for October 27, 2025.

The decision came after one of the two cleared aspirants, Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo, voluntarily withdrew from the race. Her withdrawal left Governor Oyebanji as the only remaining aspirant in the contest.

Following her decision, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) approved a change in the mode of the primary from direct voting to a consensus arrangement. The party stated that the new process complies with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, and its constitution.

The party officially informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the change through a letter dated October 13, 2025. It also announced the timetable for the nomination process.

A delegate congress will take place on October 25, followed by an appeal session on October 26. The Special Nomination Congress is set for October 27, where Oyebanji will be formally ratified as the party’s consensus candidate.
The APC commended Mrs. Omolayo for her decision to step down, describing it as a move that supports unity and progress within the party. The leadership also called on all members and stakeholders in Ekiti State to remain united and work together toward the party’s success in the July 2026 governorship election.
Earlier, another aspirant, Mr. Kayode Ojo, had been disqualified by the party’s screening committee on October 9, narrowing the field before the consensus decision was finalized.
Governor Oyebanji will now represent the APC in the 2026 governorship race as the party prepares to retain control of Ekiti State.
