Aregbesola Accuses APC of Silencing Opposition

Former Minister of Interior and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of being intolerant of opposing views and using government power to suppress dissenting voices.

Aregbesola made this known during the unveiling of the ADC Secretariat in Ilorin, Kwara State, where he criticized the APC for failing to deliver on its promises to Nigerians. He said the country was facing economic hardship, insecurity, and infrastructural decay due to poor leadership and greed within the ruling party.

According to him, the current administration has allowed hunger and intimidation to take over governance, making life difficult for citizens. He claimed that rather than focusing on development, those in power are more concerned with enriching themselves and silencing those who challenge their actions.

He described the APC’s attitude towards opposition members as oppressive, saying that a truly confident ruling party would not resort to intimidation. Aregbesola stated that the ADC represents a new hope for Nigerians and described it as a political platform built on integrity and service to the people.

Also at the event, former Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, said the launch of the ADC Secretariat marked a new political phase in the state, where citizens would now have an alternative that reflects their real aspirations.

The ADC National Publicity Secretary and former Minister of Youth and Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, also expressed confidence that the ADC is now the main opposition party capable of challenging the APC in the 2027 general elections. He noted that many Nigerians had lost faith in the ruling party and were ready to support a credible alternative.

Abdullahi further expressed concern over the worsening insecurity in rural communities across Kwara, noting that the situation had forced many farmers to abandon their farmlands. He urged the government to take swift action to protect lives and restore peace in affected areas.

The event brought together key political figures and ADC members who expressed optimism that the party would gain more support ahead of the next general elections.
