Court Reschedules Senator Natasha’s Cybercrime Trial to November 24

The Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed the trial of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central to November 24, 2025.

Justice Mohammed Umar fixed the new date after court proceedings were disrupted on Monday due to protests that affected judicial activities across the city.

The Federal Government had charged Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan with six counts under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.

The prosecution accused her of spreading false information during a live television broadcast and a public address in Kogi State, alleging that some political figures were plotting to assassinate her.

According to the case file, she was said to have mentioned Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello as part of the alleged plot, an act the prosecution claims damaged their reputations.

The lawmaker, who was arraigned on June 30, 2025, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail based on self-recognition.

Her legal team, led by Ehiogie West-Idahosa (SAN), filed an objection challenging the court’s jurisdiction, arguing that the prosecution failed to provide full witness statements and proof of evidence required for her defense.

However, the government’s counsel, David Kaswe, maintained that the case was properly filed and that the Attorney General of the Federation had the authority to prosecute the matter. He insisted that the trial should proceed as planned.

The court will continue hearing the case in November when both parties are expected to present their arguments.
