Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said that the recent defections of opposition lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress are driven by patriotism and growing confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

Akpabio made this known on Wednesday night after leading Senator Agom Jarigbe from Cross River North and Senator Kaila Samaila from Bauchi North to meet President Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. Both lawmakers recently left the Peoples Democratic Party to join the ruling APC.

According to Akpabio, the lawmakers’ decision to defect was influenced by the president’s ongoing economic policies and developmental reforms, which they believe are reshaping the country. He said that despite being elected on different party platforms, the senators were inspired to align with Tinubu’s government to contribute to national growth.

Senator Jarigbe also explained that his decision to join the APC was based on his belief that President Tinubu is performing well and steering the country in the right direction. He said he was ready to work with the president to help deliver better governance and improve the welfare of Nigerians.
The meeting at the State House is one of several recent engagements involving lawmakers who have switched to the APC, as the ruling party continues to attract members from opposition parties amid ongoing political realignments across the country.
