The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced plans to commence an indefinite nationwide strike on November 1, 2025, following unresolved discussions with the Federal Government over outstanding demands.

The decision was made after a five-hour meeting of the association’s National Executive Council (NEC), which reviewed the government’s failure to meet the conditions outlined in a 30-day ultimatum earlier issued.

In a statement issued on Sunday by NARD President, Dr. Mohammad Suleiman, the association stated that the strike would begin at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025. He said the NEC had agreed on the minimum demands, monitoring measures, and resolutions required to ensure the success of the action.

The doctors are protesting against unmet welfare concerns, inadequate working conditions, and unfulfilled commitments by the government in previous negotiations.
According to NARD, the indefinite strike will remain in effect until the government addresses all pending issues and fulfills the doctors’ demands across the country’s public hospitals.
