South-East PDP Reps Vow to Boycott National Convention

Lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the South-East region in the House of Representatives have warned that they may boycott the party’s upcoming national convention if the position of National Woman Leader is removed from the zone.

The lawmakers made their position known through their spokesperson, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, who issued a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

The convention is scheduled to take place in Ibadan between November 15 and 16.They expressed concern over reports that the woman leader position might be zoned outside the South-East.

According to them, such a move would be an unfair act against the region and could worsen the internal crisis within the party.Ugochinyere noted that no lawmaker from the South-East would remain in the party if the decision is confirmed.

He explained that since Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the arrangement for Enugu to produce the woman leader no longer stands.

He also alleged that some influential members of the PDP were attempting to transfer the position to the South-South, which he described as an insult to the South-East. He warned that the move could provoke anger among party members from the region and deepen the party’s division.

The lawmakers appealed to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to intervene and ensure that the South-East retains the position. They said the region must not be denied its rightful slot, especially after recent political setbacks within the party.
