The Senate has approved the appointment of Dr. Bernard Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after a brief screening session on Thursday, October 30, 2025. The confirmation followed President Bola Tinubu’s request to the Senate, seeking Doro’s screening and approval in accordance with Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

The screening, which lasted less than 30 minutes, took place during plenary at the National Assembly in Abuja. Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the president’s letter before referring the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for consideration. Lawmakers reviewed Doro’s profile and qualifications, expressing satisfaction with his experience and competence before unanimously approving his nomination.

Doro, who becomes the third ministerial nominee from Plateau State under the current administration, spoke about his plans to develop a humanitarian framework aimed at promoting fairness, independence, and inclusion across the country. Lawmakers commended his background and record of service before asking him to take a bow, which concluded the confirmation process.

His appointment comes after the recent selection of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
With his confirmation now complete, Dr. Bernard Doro is expected to be sworn in and assume his ministerial duties in President Tinubu’s cabinet in the coming days.
