Osun APC, PDP Clash Over Adeleke’s Comment on Tinubu

The Osun State chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have again locked horns following Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent remarks at the South-West Stakeholders’ Dialogue held in Akure, Ondo State.

The disagreement began after the APC accused Governor Adeleke of attacking President Bola Tinubu over alleged neglect of Osun State and the withholding of local government funds. The party claimed that the governor used the Akure summit to shift blame to the President for his administration’s failures.

According to the APC, Adeleke has repeatedly held the Federal Government responsible for issues affecting his performance as governor. It alleged that the governor accused the Federal Government of violating the Constitution by withholding funds meant for local councils in the state, despite a court order. The APC further maintained that President Tinubu’s administration had supported Osun State through federal projects and financial interventions in education and health, yet Adeleke was taking credit for them.

The party also faulted the governor’s management of state resources, accusing him of wasteful spending while neglecting the needs of citizens. It said Adeleke had imposed high tuition fees in state universities and spent billions on vehicles for politicians.

In response, the PDP dismissed the APC’s allegations as false and politically motivated. The party stated that Governor Adeleke did not attack President Tinubu but only spoke about constitutional and governance issues affecting states. It insisted that Adeleke’s remarks at the Akure meeting focused on improving relations between the federal and state governments and promoting fairness among all states.

The PDP described Adeleke as a respectful leader who holds President Tinubu in high regard and said his comments were made in the interest of democracy, not confrontation. It accused the APC of twisting the governor’s statements to create unnecessary political tension.

At the Akure meeting, Governor Adeleke, represented by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, urged leaders to protect the rights of sub-national governments to ensure a stronger democratic system. He also called for cooperation among states and the Federal Government, noting that political differences should not hinder development.

The exchange between the APC and PDP once again reflects the growing tension between both parties in Osun State, as each continues to defend its position ahead of future political contests.
