The Federal Government has restated its commitment to ensuring religious freedom and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians following recent remarks made by the United States of America on the issue of religion in Nigeria.

In a statement released on Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Mr. Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the government said it remains focused on addressing violent extremism and protecting all citizens regardless of their faith. He noted that the government continues to mourn victims of violence while supporting the armed forces in their ongoing operations to secure peace across the country.

According to the statement, the Federal Government shares the United States’ belief in diversity and considers it the country’s greatest strength. The ministry assured that Nigeria values unity, tolerance, and inclusiveness as part of its national identity.

Ebienfa reaffirmed that Nigeria and the United States enjoy a strong diplomatic relationship built on mutual respect and cooperation. He added that both countries are expected to keep working together to promote peace, democracy, and global stability.
The statement explained that the government is determined to counter groups and interests that fuel violence and division in parts of the West African and Sahel regions. It added that Nigeria will continue to protect all citizens without bias and uphold a culture of faith, respect, and diversity in line with global principles.
It further noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains committed to working with international partners who believe in peace, stability, freedom, and democracy, as part of efforts to build a safe and united Nigeria.
